About LLUK

Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) is the Sector Skills Council responsible for the professional development of those working in the field of lifelong learning. Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) are employer-led bodies with strategic responsibility for workforce planning, workforce standards and qualifications, training and development, labour market intelligence, investment in skills and recruitment and retention.

The vision of LLUK is to ensure that the UK lifelong learning workforce is the best globally. LLUK's mission is to ensure that lifelong learning employers can recruit, retain and develop highly skilled and effective staff - so we can access the skills and knowledge needed for a prosperous economy and inclusive society.

LLUK covers a sector of more than one million employees across the UK. This sector comprises:

  • community learning and development
  • higher education
  • further education
  • libraries, archives and information services
  • work-based learning

LLUK is in a unique position. It supports a workforce that trains much of the rest of the UK workforce, so it is a vital part of the SSC network - and will work closely with its partner SSCs to meet the skills needs identified across the UK economy.
