The different types of placements and the timescales for participation

Industry
awareness visit
A visit of between 1 and 5 days which is primarily observation
focussed and will help participants update their knowledge and
skills. |

Short
exchange
A two-way exchange of between 3 and 5 days which allows FE and
business professionals to observe and share best practice. |

Short
vocational placement
A 2 to 6 week placement in industry which allows the teacher,
tutor or trainer to complete a small project that is of mutual
benefit to both parties. This will allow for the transfer of
knowledge between both parties. |

Vocational
placement
A 6 to12 week placement in industry working on a clearly defined
activity or medium-sized project. |
 |
Sabbatical
An opportunity for a teacher, tutor or trainer to spend up to
one academic year with the host organisation, focusing on personal
vocational development and management skills. |
